Humble: the life of 100 small objects” at The Turnbull Gallery on Level 1 of the National Library draws from the quirky treasures in the Ephemera Collection.
These little items once played an active role in history, and now remain as witnesses to the past: protest badges from the 1970s, luggage labels, an 1858 library card, tram tickets, ball programmes, menus, a 1975 election card for “Win” Peters, and even a ticket to interview the Beatles in 1964.
The exhibition’s related events include lunchtime talks by researchers, and by graphic designers involved in producing today’s equivalents.
